10.01.2010 Pentland Hills in the snow

One of our favourite walks is in the Pentland Hills. One because it is nearby (15-20 minute drive) and easily accesible and two because the scenery is beautiful and changes so much with the seasons. Drawback is that it does get quite busy but if you walk up the hills instead of in the valley it gets a lot quieter very quickly.
As you can see the snow is still rather deep here even though it has mostly disappeared in the city.

Then again, CJ was cheating a bit as he was standing in a ditch! Iwona was quick to show it wasn't so bad. Pretty slippery out there though, and we saw a lot of people with skis. If there still is snow next weekend we may give it a try, even though there are no real tracks.

These poor ducks were trying to maintain the last few bits of open water. Normally the lake is nearly a kilometer long so they must feel a bit claustrophobic!

Another sunset. Hard to miss in winter as it gets dark so early! This was at 4.30 pm. Of course we could try to get out of bed earlier but try that when it still feels like night at 10 am!
